Application range and use of magnesium sulfate

Magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salt, sulfur bitter, bitter salt, Epsom salt, is a magnesium-containing compound with the molecular formula MgSO4, which is colorless, white crystal or powder, odorless, bitter in taste, and deliquescent.

According to the water content, it can be divided into monohydrate, heptahydrate, and anhydrous magnesium sulfate. It is mainly used in tanning, explosives, fertilizers, papermaking, porcelain, printing and dyeing, lead-acid batteries, etc. in industry; it is clinically used for catharsis, gallbladder, Anticonvulsant, eclampsia, tetanus, hypertension and other diseases.

Application range and use of magnesium sulfate

1. As a conductive salt, adding magnesium sulfate heptahydrate to the nickel plating solution can make the plating solution have better conductivity and make the coating white and soft; it can also be used as an aluminum smelting additive to color the aluminum surface.

2. Magnesium sulfate dissolves in water and reacts with heavy light-burned powder (magnesia) to form magnesium oxysulfide cement. This cement has good heat preservation, fire resistance, durability and environmental protection. It is used in fire door core boards , exterior wall insulation boards, silicon modified insulation boards, fireproof boards and many other fields.

3. In fireproof materials, it is used as a flame retardant for plastics such as acrylate resin, epoxy resin, unsaturated polyester and polyurethane, to enhance the heat resistance of fireproof materials.

4. During the drying and sintering process of magnesium oxide refractories, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is used to stabilize the green body.

5. It can be directly used as a sewage treatment agent for industrial sewage treatment, and it can coagulate and settle waste liquid sewage to make it meet the sewage discharge standard.

6. Used for printing and dyeing thin cotton cloth, as a weighting agent for cotton and silk, as a filler for kapok products, as a color developing salt for blue dyes, and as an alkali absorbing agent in black liquid.

7. In the industrial production of polymer materials such as ABS and EPS, it is used as a polymer emulsion coagulant.

8. It is an important auxiliary material for viscose fiber and vinylon fiber.

9. Magnesium sulfate, like other potassium, calcium, amino acid salts, silicates and other minerals, can be used as bath salt.

10. It is used to increase the selectivity of oxygen bleaching delignification, improve the quality of cellulose, and save product usage.

11. As a leather processing aid and filler, it can make the leather softer, promote the adhesion of the tanning agent and the leather, improve the quality of the leather, and enhance the heat resistance of the leather.

12. It can be used as fabric dyeing agent, anti-alkali agent, weighting agent, magnesium dyeing agent, for the production of thin cotton cloth and silk for printing and dyeing, and as a dyeing agent and reductase in the chemical fiber and textile industry to ensure that the pH value is at Uniform dyeing can be achieved between 6-7; it can also be used as a filler for kapok products and for the production of rayon.

13. Raw materials for the manufacture of other magnesium salts such as magnesium stearate, magnesium hydrogen phosphate, magnesium silicate, magnesium oxide, and other sulfates such as potassium sulfate and sodium sulfate.

14. Used as a medium component, an additive for brewing, supplementing magnesium in brewing water, and a nutrient source during fermentation.

15. Used as a stabilizer for calcium hydrogen phosphate in the production of fresh yeast, monosodium glutamate, beverages, mineral water, health salt, beer and toothpaste.

16. Used in nutritional supplements, curing agents, flavor enhancers, processing aids and nutritional enhancers to adjust water hardness and improve fermentation capacity.

17. Used as peroxide and perborate stabilizer in detergent to adjust the viscosity of detergent.

18. The use of magnesium sulfate in the pharmaceutical industry
①. Used to prepare protective ointment, laxative, analgesic and antidote;
②. Production of anticonvulsants, laxatives, melemycin, acetylspiramycin, creatinine, magnesium trisilicate, griseofulvin, salinomycin, mycocin, tobramycin, Shenyankang, gibberellin, Caprimycin sulfate, etc.;
③. Serves as sedative, antispasmodic and reduces intracranial pressure;
④. Used for gastrointestinal imaging;
⑤. Magnesium sulfate can stimulate the duodenal mucosa, reflexively cause the relaxation of the common bile duct sphincter and the contraction of the gallbladder, thereby promoting the emptying of the gallbladder and having a choleretic effect. It can be used to treat cholecystitis and cholelithiasis.

19. Supplements for magnesium in feed processing. Magnesium is an indispensable factor in the process of bone building and muscle contraction in livestock and poultry, and is an activator of various enzymes in livestock and poultry, and plays an extremely important role in the metabolism and nerve function of livestock and poultry. If the livestock and poultry lack magnesium, it will lead to material metabolism and nerve dysfunction, supply imbalance, affect the growth and development of livestock and poultry, and even lead to death.

20. It is used to improve magnesium-deficient soil (magnesium is a basic element of chlorophyll molecule), and it is most commonly used for potted plants or magnesium-containing crops, such as potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, roses, etc.

21. Adding the alkali metal of magnesium sulfate to the electrolyte of lead-acid battery can improve the life of the battery. Because the alkali metal has the function of inhibiting the formation of dendrites and preventing short circuit, and has a certain effect on preventing early capacity decline and recovery after battery overdischarge.

22. Magnesium sulfate is hygroscopic and can easily absorb moisture from the air. Due to this feature, industrial magnesium sulfate is often used to dry ceramic products; because magnesium sulfate is a good inorganic flocculant, the flocculant can promote the settlement of dispersed mud particles in the ceramic production process, and can also play a good role in plasticizing , whitening and color enhancement.
